Even in 1990’s when there was economic prosperity, homelessness statistics was very high and it has not decreased yet. Between five and six hundred thousand people are considered to be homeless at any given time and they do not have a safe and affordable house to live in. The main reason for homelessness is poverty. Only way to reduce homelessness is to provide permanent housing to those who are poor. The homeless usually qualify for public assistance and if the public agencies are involved in helping them in job training as well then certainly the numbers of homeless would decrease.
